Getting Support- Having someone who supports your effort to change your life is very important. In fact, research shows it is the single most important indicator for success.
It’s important to have people on your side—cheering for you, supporting you, offering you an ear when you need it. It’s how God created you. Genesis 2:18 tells us that God created us to be in community with one another—-that it’s "not good" to be alone.
You need a "suitable helper," too. Who is your suitable helper?
Let’s start at the top: God. People of faith understand that God is as close as "right here." We believe that we communicate with God through prayer, reading the Bible, and being in community with other Christians. There’s a strong understanding that God is present in the lives of His people.
With God working with you in your life, you are never alone, never facing the unknown by yourself.
It's also important to have at least one person in your life who strongly supports your decision to change. If you are married, your spouse is the best place to look for support. A person who has spousal support has a much higher success rate than a person whose spouse is un-supportive or indifferent.
But, if it is not possible to look to your spouse for support, don't give up! You can look to a close friend, or family member.
