Getting Support- Having someone who supports your effort to change your life is very important. In fact, research shows it is the single most important indicator for success.

It’s important to have people on your side—cheering for you, supporting you, offering you an ear when you need it. It’s how God created you. Genesis 2:18 tells us that God created us to be in community with one another—-that it’s "not good" to be alone.
You need a "suitable helper," too. Who is your suitable helper?

Let’s start at the top: God. People of faith understand that God is as close as "right here." We believe that we communicate with God through prayer, reading the Bible, and being in community with other Christians. There’s a strong understanding that God is present in the lives of His people.

With God working with you in your life, you are never alone, never facing the unknown by yourself.

It's also important to have at least one person in your life who strongly supports your decision to change. If you are married, your spouse is the best place to look for support. A person who has spousal support has a much higher success rate than a person whose spouse is un-supportive or indifferent.

But, if it is not possible to look to your spouse for support, don't give up! You can look to a close friend, or family member.

Your Best You: Discovering and Developing the Strengths God Gave You contains exercises that will help you create your own plan for developing the social support you need as you walk through the valley of change.

Share Your Strengths

Here is the place for you to share the strengths you've discovered in yourself. Use the comment section to write about, express, share, and otherwise rejoice in the joy you've found inside of you.

Honestly, this is my favorite part of the book (or of a conference) - people sharing with me, and each other, the amazing strengths God has given them. I'll be checking back often, commenting, and highlighting various unique strengths in this section of the blog!

About the Book, Your Best You

Have you ever tried to change something about yourself but had a hard time making it stick? If so, Bonnie Grove knows how you feel. The problem, she explains, is that when it comes to self-improvement, most of us start by asking ourselves the wrong questions.

Instead of, What are my weaknesses? How can I fix them? we should be asking, What are my strengths? How can I build on them?

This book is not a one-size-fits-all approach to lifestyle change. It doesn’t offer a ten-step formula or a one-minute prayer that guarantees success in 30 days.

This book is about you. It’s about discovering and developing what you do well, what you love, and what brings you joy so you can see yourself the way God sees youand begin to truly receive His best for your life.

Unlike some self-improvement books, you won’t be asked to:
  • spend time digging around in the past
  • put your problems under a microscope
  • try and fix everything that’s “broken” in your life
  • improve on things you’re not very good at
Instead, the author gives you tools and resources to help you:
  • discover what you’re good at—not what you think you should be good at
  • develop your strengths and use them to offset your weaknesses
  • learn to recognize your true goals
  • create a personalized map to follow as you begin your journey to becoming your best you
